What's in the box? As we move from static, consumption-driven lifestyles to living with portability, flexibility and "less is more," it's fascinating to see how thoughtful design can bring this vital ethic to bear. We've seen transformer kitchens, weiterlesen...

As part of the Museum of London's massive refurbishment, they have begun to install an ambitious green roof on the top of the building. This will be a long-term research and demonstration project, rather than the sexy public spaces that we have seen on other buildings.
By having a number of different habitats, it will show the diversity that green roofs can hav... weiterlesen...

While investment in infrastructure in America disappears, in China they are reaching for the sky with Zeppelins and building hangars to house them. OPEN Architecture designed this one, which has " a prefabricated concrete frame and panel system, an innovative and fully integrated structural skin that carries vertical loads of structure, roof inst... weiterlesen...

In this wired era, it's easy to let the office creep into every part of life, even time spent in nature, by checking email from the beach or taking a work call while out on the trail. But what if the tables were turned, and it was nature that was creeping into the office instead? It might look something like the playful, slightly surreal installation ... weiterlesen...

Swedish architects Anders Berensson and Ulf Mejergren of VisionDivision have been commissioned to design Chop Stick, a concession stand for 100 Acres: The Virginia B. One often hears the old line "Is there a doctor in the house", but rarely do you hear the same request for an architect. Cameron and Kate raised the profile of the profession around the word with Architecture for Humanity, but back on his home turf, Riot Rebuild has beat him to the punch. Founder Lee Wilshire explains:

Glass balcony panels are raining down on the streets of Toronto from the shiny new condominiums, building envelope expert John Straube was interviewed on Ontario Morning to discuss the problem. I have not posted much of the recent work of Michael Jantzen on TreeHugger; he has interesting visions but very little reality, mainly renderings of architectural wonders in open fields. (Jerry covered a recent one here.) But I learn from a reprint of a 1982 Popular Science in Modern ...Read the full story on TreeHugger

Each summer for the past eleven years, the Serpentine Gallery has commissioned a different architect to design a pavilion on the adjacent park lands. It serves as an inspirational place to hang out, hear lectures and have a drink.
This year's is designed by Swiss architect Peter Zumthor and its focal point is a specially created garden by the Dutch landscape de... weiterlesen...

Here's a project that gives a whole new meaning to pop-up and recycling. Films on Fridges is an outdoor cinema made entirely from discarded refrigerator doors. It has popped up near the 2012 Olympic Park.
Guess what they will be showing: sporting classics, in tribute to the spirit of the Games. See Rocky, or Chariots of Fire on the back of a fridge.
