As an occasional meat eater who loves some fake meats, I can see the value in non-animal product alternatives to meat. But as I discussed in my post on the Vegan Zombie's taste for fake cheese, I've not had as much luck with dairy and egg replacements—with one big exception. Vegenaise.

In news that will come as no surprise to the green-minded, a new report from the Environmental Working Group (EWG) shows that eating meat significantly contributes to global warming. Now, you may be thinking “duh, we’ve been saying that for years,” but do you know exactly how many carbon emissions come from a hamburger? Or how many extra miles you just drove be... weiterlesen...

Before anyone writes in and tells me how unhealthy this recipe is, I know, I know. But I happen to be hanging out in the French Alps for two weeks and eggs, cream and cheese are the currency here. In fact, I have probably used up my cheese quota for the rest of the year. ...Read the full story on TreeHugger

If you came across cheese made from human breast milk – would you eat it? That’s exactly the question that was posed to passersby at Artist Miriam Simun’s “Lady Cheese Shop.” We were on the scene as the storefront/art exhibit at the Michael Mutt Gallery in the East Village in New York offered up actual cheese m... weiterlesen...

For years my daughter wouldn't eat raw tomatoes and only suffered cooked tomatoes occasionally. Now one of her favourite things to make is bruschetta. We had it just last night for dinner, but in a salad version without the bread. I was looking for something that would appeal more to children, and I found this recipe for Italian Caprese Sandwiches. Anyo... weiterlesen...

I wanted something that could be served at room temperature and that people could eat in one or two bites. Armed with only a salt shaker, I couldn't resist them as they seemed to ripen right before my eyes every Summer in the backyard garden. These eight recipes celebrate the tomato, such as bruschetta with mint and goat cheese, cherry tomato pizza... weiterlesen...

Stereotypes about Parisians are well known: the snobbery, the love of stinky cheese, the baguette under the arm and the cigarette on the lips. I won't comment on the first three, but the fourth holds up pretty well. Certainly, not everyone in Paris smo... weiterlesen...

I've made a lot of biscuits in my time, and I think this is the nicest recipe I've used. The biscuits rose beautifully, were light and fluffy and had a terrific flavour. They were very easy to make. It all went into the mixer, a little bit of kneading, cutting them out and into the oven they went. So easy dads can help their kids make them for mom's bre... weiterlesen...
